Our Flagship fundraiser, Simon’s Big Sleep Out, is just a matter days away. After a two year hiatus due to the pandemic, we’re thrilled to be back, bigger and better than ever.

Make sure you’re signed up!

If you haven’t signed up already, there’s still plenty of time. Come and join us at 7pm on Thursday 20th October, where the Lord Mayor of Leeds will be opening the event at Leeds Civic Hall.

Tickets are just £25, and this includes entertainment from KwizzBit, music from our friends at Love Leeds Events, hot drinks to keep you warm in the evening, and bacon sandwiches in the morning. We’re confident that all of this will help to keep you going and boost morale as the evening goes on.

How to get Sleep Out ready!

Simon’s Big Sleep Out is an event with a difference. An event where the community pulls together to spend the night sleeping outside to raise awareness of homelessness. So just how do you prepare? And what do you need to help make the event the success we know it’s going to be? Here’s our tips.

Dress appropriately

This is October! Bear in mind that you’ll be out in the elements with no shelter. Whilst you can check the weather forecast, it can be pretty unpredictable. Temperatures will drop as the evening goes on so get your sleeping bag ready, your warmest clothes on, and wear plenty of layers.

It might be tough, but those facing homelessnes are navigating these challenges every single day across every single season. This event won’t even come close to what the people we support face, the best we can do is to raise awareness and help to make a difference.

Fundraising - keep going!

We’re a non-commissioned charity so events like this are vital, and really important to us. That’s why we’re asking our participants to attempt to raise £100 in sponsorship, and all proceeds raised will go towards supporting the work of Simon on the Streets.

Our last Big Sleep Out in 2019 raised over £26,000, we need your help to do it all over again. Be proactive about asking for sponsorship, share updates about the event far and wide and feel free to encourage other people to sign up and join us on the nights.

Remember also that the work doesn’t stop once the event is over. There are so many ways to give and so many ways to make a difference. Take a look here.

Gather your people

Everyone* is welcome at Simon’s Big Sleep Out! We have space for up to 120 people, so bring your friends, family and work colleagues.

Let’s remember why we’re doing this. The Big Sleep Out is all about bringing our community together to raise awareness and funds. The more people joining us, the more we can help those people facing homelessness.

Spread the word!

Bring your phone, take lots of pictures. Share your photos far and wide on your social media accounts - don’t forget to tag us in! We can’t wait to see you all there and hear all about how you’re getting on.

Make sure you use the hashtag #simonsbigsleepout to help us raise as much awareness as possible, it’s your support that keeps us going and we couldn’t continue to do the work we do without you.
